29 January 2018 WEEK 84

As I continue to study chapter 1 in PMG, as well as lesson 3, and Faith from chapter 6, I learn more and more. For this week, I thought I would share some of my thoughts on these sections, as represented by my personal notes at the outside of each page. So, here we go:

The Atonement is the only way!

Quote from bottom of page 32: “Our Father’s plan for us to be successful in this life and to return to live with Him is called the gospel of Jesus Christ”. My comment: Good, simple definition of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Our Prophet: Has Priesthood authority. Presides over God’s earthly kingdom.
His main role is to get God’s children back to God. This has happened over and over in each dispensation.

Our Savior: Gave His Apostles priesthood authority. Established His Church. Taught the gospel. Performed miracles. Set an example of love, service, and humility. Atonement – beat physical and spiritual death.
Fulfilled prophecy. Taught us obedience and forgiveness through his example.

Joseph Smith used the scriptures and prayer to find enlightenment, rather than listening to somebody else’s opinion. Most wise! I believe the Spirit led Joseph to James 1:5. Then, he exercised his faith by doing something; he prayed!

The heavens were truly opened – the fulness of the gospel restored. Revelation. Priesthood authority. Sacred saving ordinances. God’s kingdom on earth established. This is exciting news!

If the Spirit is ever going to testify to the truthfulness of what you say, it will be when you tell the story of the First Vision. I testify this is true!

The Spirit will testify to any honest seeker of truth that the Book of Mormon is true. Believe it!

Quote from page 39: “Knowing that the Book of Mormon is true leads to a knowledge that Joseph Smith was called as a prophet and that the gospel of Jesus Christ was restored through him.” My comment: These three things are inextricably tied together. Either they are all a lie, or they are all true.

Prayer is not just talking to God, it is talking with God.

What a blessing that Elder Fua and I received this past week! We were able to have the baptism for Deneka. I could tell that the adversary was trying really hard to not allow this marvelous event to occur, because right as the program was starting it began to pour as hard as it ever has here in
Sav! But we waited it out and was able to continue on with Deneka's baptism in the ocean. What a spiritual experience it was.

We have been receiving so many blessings from the lord this week, and we are so grateful for it. The week was rough, but something that I have come to learn and love on my mission, is when there is trial, challenge, tribulation, persecution, ect... Something good always lies on the horizon.

22 January 2018 WEEK 83

This week has been a series of fortunate and unfortunate events. \

Lets start with the fortunate.
Elder Fua and I will be having a baptism this week for Deneka. It will be on saturday and it will be in the ocean which is super kool! She asked me to baptize her. So I will be getting my pants wet this weekend.
Some more fortunate news, I am getting really good at cooking haha, that is with a recipe. I made some fried dumpling this week and soaked it in some butter, than I floured some powdered sugar over the top. If I have diabetes or a heart attack by next week, you will know why.

We were also able to give a couple of service opportunities this week. We got to chop some yard with a machete and also got the privilege of washing clothes or a member. And by wash I mean hand wash. It was really fun, because it turned into a giant water fight. Worth it!

Along the lines of some unfortunate news.
This week, a child of one of the members, burnt his chest and his stomach really bad. He grabbed a cup of tea that was on the table and it spilt all over him. He was rushed to the hospital this last week. Elder Fua and I went and visited this family seeing as we are really close to them. When we went he seemed to be doing really good and very happy. We were able to give him a priesthood blessing.

15 January 2018 WEEK 82

This week was full of success! We were able to have 4 people on date ready to be baptized, and also had 6 Investigators come to church. We will be having a baptism for an 11 year old girl named Deneka on the 27th of January

I want to leave you with my testimony of the Great plan of Happiness considering the state of death. And I leave a second witness along with President Gordon B. Hinkley:

"I hope that prayer will take on a new luster in our lives. None of us knows what lies ahead. We may speculate, but we do not know. Sickness may strike us. Misfortune may overtake us. Fears may afflict us. Death may place his cold and solemn hand upon us or a loved one.

Regardless of what may come, may faith, immovable and constant, shine above us as the polar star."
  1. My love goes out to The friends and family of the Crawford family! In loving memory of my Beloved friend Logan Crawford, who passed away this last week due to tragic accidents. Death is not the end, God be with you, till we meet again!
  2. 1. God be with you till we meet again;
    By his counsels guide, uphold you;
    With his sheep securely fold you.
    God be with you till we meet again.
  3. Till we meet, till we meet,
    Till we meet at Jesus’ feet,
    Till we meet, till we meet,
    God be with you till we meet again.
  4. 2. God be with you till we meet again;
    When life’s perils thick confound you,
    Put his arms unfailing round you.
    God be with you till we meet again.
  5. Till we meet, till we meet,
    Till we meet at Jesus’ feet,
    Till we meet, till we meet,
    God be with you till we meet again.
  6. 3. God be with you till we meet again;
    Keep love’s banner floating o’er you;
    Smite death’s threat’ning wave before you.
    God be with you till we meet again.
  7. Till we meet, till we meet,
    Till we meet at Jesus’ feet,
    Till we meet, till we meet,
    God be with you till we meet again.

8 January 2018 WEEK 81

Stone did not send a letter last week on New Years on Week 80 - He did a google hangouts conversation with us but no formal letter.  Tons of pictures to make up of it!

Choose to be happy!

“ . . .for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.” Philippians 4:11

Things are moving a long here in Sav. Something I really have focused on these last couple of months is to be happy! We may not be seeing the success that we want to, but we have worked hard everyday and been extremely happy while doing it. I really love being here in this moment of time. I would not want to be anywhere else. I love the people of Jamaica!

This past week I got a visit from some members and friends, but most importantly family, from back in Spanish Town. Momma Eddy, Tina Edwards and Shalawah Barnes. We went out to Burger King and got to catch up with each other. It was so good to see them after a long time. Memories like this will be something that I cherish for a lifetime.

A lot of members have been starting to come back to church, and that is something that we have been focusing on. The retention level here is really low, but the membership of those who are active is so strong. We have been taking many people teaching and that has seemed to spark some interest in a friendship.

Have a blessed week!
Love Elder Gibbons
